Dr. Eugene Marcus Cooper is a leading Bahamian gastroenterologist whose career spans clinical excellence, health-system leadership, and a deep commitment to advancing digestive health throughout the Caribbean. As CEO and Medical Director of GastroCare Bahamas, The Endosurgical Suite, and Palmdale Medical and Cat Island Medical, he has played a pivotal role in expanding access to high-quality medical services in Nassau and the family islands. His work blends expert clinical care with a patient-centered approach, reflecting more than two decades of specialized training and practice in internal medicine, gastroenterology, and hepatology.

In addition to his clinical leadership, Dr. Cooper has held significant national appointments, including serving as the first Medical Director of the National Health Insurance Authority and President of the Medical Association of the Bahamas. Through these roles, he has helped shape national policy, strengthen professional standards, and broaden public awareness around preventive health, colorectal cancer screening, and chronic disease management. His longstanding consultancy at Princess Margaret Hospital and former voluntary faculty role at the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine underscore his dedication to medical education and mentorship.
